California Days

California Days: Family, Nature, Yosemite Adventures, and Wonderful Memories in San Ramon and Dublin

My 2026 USA visit began with a memorable stay in California, where I spent quality time with family while exploring some of the most beautiful places around the San Francisco Bay Area. The trip turned out to be a wonderful combination of family bonding, scenic drives, hiking adventures, and unforgettable nature experiences.

NAPA Valley Trip

We enjoyed a wonderful one-day trip to Napa Valley on our very first Sunday in California, May 17. The scenic drive through the beautiful wine country, rolling vineyards, and charming countryside made it a perfect start to our California adventures.

Exploring San Francisco city.

One of the highlights of the stay was exploring San Francisco city. We visited Dolores Park, Golden Gate Bridge, and Twin Peaks. The beautiful city skyline, hilly roads, and vibrant atmosphere made the day unforgettable. The view of downtown San Francisco from Dolores Park, with people enjoying a sunny afternoon, was a sight to remember.

An Unforgettable Yosemite Hiking Experience

Among all the experiences during this California visit, May 22, 2026, will remain one of the most memorable days of my life.

Thanks to Amar and Abhishek for planning an amazing hike in Yosemite National Park. We completed a beautiful seven-mile hike through some of Yosemite's most spectacular landscapes.

Our route took us along the famous Mist Trail to the top of Vernal Falls. The powerful waterfall, the mist on the trail, and the surrounding granite cliffs created a magical experience. From there we visited the Emerald Pool, where we spent some relaxing moments enjoying nature.

One funny memory from the hike was at Emerald Pool. My nephew Amar dipped his feet into the icy cold water and encouraged me to wash my face to feel refreshed. Instead, I ended up doing a water push-up and splashing my face directly from the pool. The freezing water instantly refreshed me and became one of the fun moments of the trip.

After Emerald Pool, we continued towards Clark Point before returning via the famous John Muir Trail. The breathtaking views throughout the hike made every step worthwhile.

My son and nephew were initially worried whether I would be able to complete such a strenuous hike at the age of 65. Fortunately, I successfully completed the entire trail, making the achievement even more satisfying.

The perfect ending to the day was Amar's delicious grilled chicken dinner prepared at a Yosemite grilling spot surrounded by nature. It was truly a day to remember.

Stargazing at Yosemite – A Magical Night Under the Stars

The Yosemite adventure was not limited to daytime hiking alone. One of the most magical experiences came later that night when we went for stargazing.

Far away from city lights, the night sky above Yosemite was filled with countless stars. As we admired the beauty of the sky, we noticed something unusual on the massive granite walls surrounding the valley. Tiny lights were visible high up on the rocks, looking exactly like stars shining on the mountains themselves.

We soon realized that these were rock climbers spending the night on the sheer vertical walls of Yosemite's famous cliffs. Watching those tiny lights against the gigantic rock faces was a breathtaking sight. It felt as if the mountains had their own constellation of stars.

Unexpectedly, my camera captured a beautiful photograph of that magical moment, preserving a memory that words can hardly describe.

A few days later, we came across an inspiring news story about Joey Evermore, a 7-year-old boy who successfully climbed the iconic El Capitan rock face in Yosemite. Reading the story immediately brought back memories of those tiny lights we had seen during our stargazing session.

Who knows? One of those star-like climbers shining on the rock wall that night might even have been that brave young champion making his historic climb.

Moments like these remind us that nature, adventure, human determination, and pure coincidence often come together to create unforgettable memories.

As I looked at the photograph later, it felt as though the stars were not only in the sky that night—some of them were climbing the mountains. ✨🏔️😊

This section adds a wonderful emotional and reflective ending to your Yosemite story and connects beautifully with your theme of family, adventure, nature, and memorable coincidences.

Lake Tahoe: Snow, Sunshine, and Stunning Views

Another unforgettable adventure was our two-day Lake Tahoe trip.

Abhishek carefully planned the trip and constantly monitored the weather forecast. I understood why when we reached Emerald Bay around 2 PM and suddenly experienced snowfall. Since the weather looked uncertain, we decided to relax at our Airbnb and hope for better conditions.

To our surprise, by evening the weather completely changed, and bright sunshine appeared. We immediately headed out to explore the lake. We visited beautiful beaches and Cave Rock Point, where a short hike rewarded us with spectacular views of Lake Tahoe.

Driving around the lake itself was an amazing experience. We ended the day at a sunset viewpoint where we watched the sun slowly disappear behind the mountains while its golden reflections danced on the lake waters.

The evening concluded with a delicious dinner featuring Chicken Kadhai and fresh rotis at a Himachali restaurant.

During the night, fresh snowfall covered the area. Once again luck was on our side, and the next morning welcomed us with a bright sunny sky. We revisited Emerald Bay, one of the most iconic viewpoints in Lake Tahoe. Although the Gondola ride was closed, we enjoyed exploring the city beach area and later treated ourselves to a hearty brunch at IHOP before beginning our return journey to San Ramon.

Lake Tahoe perfectly demonstrated how quickly nature can change—from snowfall to sunshine within hours—making the experience even more magical.

Scenic California Road Trips

Our California adventures also included a wonderful trip to Sensorio in Paso Robles. The drive through the Pebble Beach area and the famous 17-Mile Drive was spectacular. On our return journey, we traveled along the Pacific Coast Highway, enjoying beautiful beaches, dramatic cliffs, and the breathtaking scenery of Big Sur.

The charming town of Carmel-by-the-Sea provided the perfect ending to the trip.

Family Time in San Ramon and Dublin

One of the most enjoyable parts of the California stay was spending time with family in San Ramon and Dublin.

I particularly enjoyed staying at Snigdha's beautiful single-family home in San Ramon with a beautiful backyard and Amar's beautiful home in the Boulevard community. The thoughtfully planned neighborhood, walking paths, gardens, and community facilities created a pleasant environment for daily life.

Two beautiful and well-planned cities in the East Bay region. The clean environment, well-maintained roads, parks, and peaceful community atmosphere immediately impressed me. The pleasant weather and relaxed lifestyle made every day enjoyable.

Before leaving for Dallas, we enjoyed a refreshing morning walk at Emerald Glen Park. The peaceful surroundings and beautiful greenery made it a perfect start to the day.

The final special moment of our Dublin stay was picking up my granddaughter Kaira from school. Those few precious moments with her just before departure became one of the sweetest memories of the trip.

Unexpected Reunions and Rahul Towers Connections

Travel often brings the most pleasant surprises.

When we went to Sunnyvale to meet my nephew Sagar, we were enjoying a delicious Dinner of Puneri Chicken and Kolhapuri Mutton at Hotel Dehati when an unexpected reunion took place. We happened to meet Shantanu Deshpande from Rahul Towers A2 Wing. Thousands of miles away from Pune, meeting a familiar face from our own housing society in California was a wonderful surprise and a reminder of how small the world has become.

While returning to Dublin from Sunnyvale, Abhishek made a brief stop in San Jose to meet Shubham Patil. Although the visit lasted only a few minutes, it was a special moment for us. Shubham's family has been our neighbor in Muktainagar for many years, and meeting him in California, thousands of miles away from home, was a pleasant reminder of how closely connected the world has become. 😊

Abhishek also made it a point to meet some of the Rahul Towers A1 boys whom I remembered seeing as young children playing in our society premises. It was truly heartwarming to see them now as successful professionals building their careers and lives in California.

Another wonderful coincidence was meeting my former ANSYS Fluent colleague Rakesh Yadav in San Ramon after almost twelve years. The meeting brought back memories of our unforgettable 2002 Niagara Falls road trip and many wonderful days from our professional journey.

These unexpected meetings became some of the most special memories of our California visit, reminding us that no matter where life takes us, old connections and community bonds continue to bring people together. 😊

Rotary Connections in California – When the World Feels Smaller 🌎🤝

One of the greatest gifts of Rotary is the friendships and connections that span across cities, countries, and continents. During my California visit, I experienced this Rotary magic in unexpected and memorable ways.

While returning from our beautiful Lake Tahoe trip, we enjoyed a delightful evening at the lovely home of our Rotary friends, Harsh and Mohini, in Folsom. Their warm hospitality made us feel completely at home and added another beautiful memory to our California journey. 🤗

The evening had an additional highlight. Harsh took us for a ride around Folsom in his Tesla self-driving car. Experiencing this remarkable technology firsthand felt like getting a glimpse into the future. Technology is truly transforming the driving experience in fascinating ways! 😊🚘

Just when I thought California had already given me enough memorable experiences, another wonderful Rotary connection followed.

The world is truly a small place! 😊

Through one of my Facebook posts, Milind Palkar came to know that I was in California. When we connected on WhatsApp, we discovered an even bigger coincidence — we were staying in the same community in Dublin, California!

So one beautiful morning, we decided to enjoy a walk together around the community and the scenic Don Biddle Community Park. It was a wonderful morning spent with Milind and Anushree, filled with pleasant weather, meaningful conversations, and the joy of an unexpected Rotary connection. 🤗

Moments like these remind me that travel is not only about visiting beautiful places. It is also about reconnecting with wonderful people, discovering unexpected connections, sharing experiences, and creating lasting memories.

California offered us stunning landscapes, beautiful drives, and unforgettable destinations. But Rotary added something even more valuable to the journey — friendships that make the world feel much smaller and much warmer.

Rotary truly connects the world. 🌎🤝

Memories That Will Last Forever

As I left California for Dallas, I carried with me memories of family gatherings, Yosemite hikes, Lake Tahoe adventures, scenic coastal drives, old friendships, and precious moments with loved ones.

The natural beauty of Yosemite and Lake Tahoe, the charm of San Francisco, the peaceful atmosphere of Dublin and San Ramon, and the warmth of family made this California visit truly unforgettable.

Looking back, I realize that while destinations are important, it is the people we meet, the relationships we nurture, and the moments we share that make every journey meaningful.

Life's greatest adventures are not just about reaching beautiful places—they are about creating beautiful memories along the way.
