Gudhi Padwa – The Day of Creation
A New Year, A New Awareness
Gudhi Padwa marks the beginning of the new year in the Indian calendar.
Traditionally, it is celebrated as the day of creation of the universe — “Srushti Nirmiti”.
The idea of creation itself always fills my mind with curiosity.
How was this universe created?
Why did only humans on this planet evolve to such a high level of intelligence?
When did human beings begin to think?
The questions that arose in the minds of human beings thousands of years ago still inspire deep reflection today.
Ancient Indian wisdom beautifully describes the mystery of creation:
"Before creation there was neither existence nor non-existence,
there was no sky, no space, and no atmosphere.
What was hidden? Who was covering whom?
Even the cosmic waters had not yet emerged."
These thoughts remind us how mysterious the origin of this universe truly is.
The “X” Factor of Life
In mathematics, when we solve difficult equations, we assume an unknown value called X.
This “X” does not have a defined value initially.
Yet without assuming X, the equation cannot be solved.
Once the answer is found, the value of X becomes clear — and the assumed X quietly disappears.
Perhaps in a similar way, when humans faced the difficult questions of life and the universe, they assumed their own “X”.
That X became God.
Some called it X, some Y, some Z —
each civilization and culture gave different names, symbols and forms.
Faith, Belief and Awareness
Does God exist?
Should we have faith?
Where is the thin line between faith and blind belief?
No one has a final answer.
But from my own life experience I have realized something simple:
Faith is necessary — even if it begins with a stone.
And in mathematics,
Zero has to be accepted — even though it is nothing.
Yet without zero, mathematics collapses.
Similarly, without faith, life becomes unnecessarily heavy.
Ancient wisdom expresses this beautifully:
Om Poornamadah Poornamidam
Poornaat Poornam Udachyate
Poornasya Poornam Aadaaya
Poornam Evaa Vashishyate
The universe is complete.
From completeness emerges completeness.
Even after taking completeness from completeness, what remains is still complete.
In modern language we could say:
Infinity minus infinity still remains infinity.
The Creator of Your Own World
Whether there is a divine creator of this universe or not may remain a mystery.
But one truth is clear:
Each of us must create our own world.
Our thoughts create it.
Our actions shape it.
Our awareness directs it.
