Diwali Road Trip: Pune–Belagavi–Bengaluru–Dandeli – A Journey of Light and Memories

From college nostalgia in Belagavi to family Diwali in Bengaluru and serenity in Dandeli — a journey that glowed brighter than the diyas themselve

This Diwali, we decided to make our celebration even more special —
by turning it into a long road trip to Bengaluru to enjoy the festival of lights
with our family and friends.


Our journey began with a nostalgic one-day halt at Belagavi, a city that holds
a very special place in my heart. It’s where I spent my golden engineering
years at GIT College (1979–1984) — days filled with friendship, laughter,
and dreams that shaped who I am today.

The most memorable part of this visit was meeting our Belagavi
local friend from that era, Avinash Patil, who came to greet us with
the same warmth and energy as old times. He took us on a delightful nostalgic tour
of all the places that defined our youth — the old GIT campus,
where our first batch had started the journey, the Patravali Building where we used to stay
(now under redevelopment), the Kallimani and Bagi Buildings,
and the RPD corner, where we spent countless hours of fun and conversation.
Adding to the joy, my classmate Veenitha Gejji, now a retired Professor at GIT College,
also visited us — making the moment even more special. It truly felt like
reliving the golden chapter of our college life once again.

After celebrating a wonderful Diwali in Bengaluru, surrounded by the

warmth of loved ones,we began our return journey —
but not before a two-day stop at Dandeli,
one of Karnataka’s most beautiful nature escapes. The lush forests, serene river,
and the call of the wild made those two days a perfect blend of adventure and peace.

In the end, this Diwali turned into much more than a festival
— it became a beautiful journey of reconnecting with old memories,
cherishing family bonds, and celebrating the light that travels with us wherever we go.

दिवाळी रोड ट्रिप : पुणे–बेळगाव–बंगळुरू–दांदेली – प्रकाश आणि आठवणींचा प्रवास

या दिवाळीत आम्ही ठरवलं की यंदाची दिवाळी थोडी वेगळी आणि खास करायची —

म्हणून आम्ही ठरवलं पुण्याहून बंगळुरूला एक सुंदर लांब रोड ट्रिप करून

कुटुंबीय आणि मित्रमंडळीसोबत दिवाळी साजरी करायची.

आमच्या प्रवासाची सुरुवात झाली बेळगावातील एका दिवसाच्या भावनिक थांब्याने —

माझ्या हृदयात कायम खास स्थान असलेल्या या शहरात मी माझी सुवर्ण इंजिनिअरिंगची

वर्षे घालवली होती — GIT कॉलेजमध्ये (१९७९–१९८४). त्या दिवसांतील

मैत्री, हशा आणि स्वप्नांनी आजचा मी घडवला.

या भेटीतील सर्वात अविस्मरणीय भाग म्हणजे त्या काळातील आमचा स्थानिक मित्र अविनाश पाटील

आमच्याशी भेटायला आला. त्याने आम्हाला त्या काळातील अनेक ठिकाणांची सफर घडवली —

जुना GIT कॅम्पस, जिथे आमच्या पहिल्या बॅचचा प्रवास सुरू झाला होता,

पत्रावली बिल्डिंग (जिथे आम्ही राहायचो, सध्या पुनर्विकासाच्या टप्प्यात आहे),

कल्लिमणी बिल्डिंग, बागी बिल्डिंग, आणि तो ओळखीचा RPD कॉर्नर,

जिथे आम्ही असंख्य तास हशा आणि गप्पांमध्ये घालवले होते.

याशिवाय माझी वर्गमैत्रीण विनीथा गेजी आता आपल्या GIT कॉलेजमध्ये सेवानिवृत्त प्राध्यापक आहे,

तीही भेटायला आली — आणि त्या भेटीने या आठवणींच्या प्रवासाला अधिक अर्थपूर्ण बनवलं.

काही क्षणांसाठी असं वाटलं, जणू पुन्हा एकदा आपण त्या सुवर्ण काळात परतलो आहोत.

बंगळुरू येथे कुटुंब आणि मित्रमंडळीसोबत आनंदात दिवाळी साजरी केल्यानंतर आम्ही परतीच्या प्रवासाला निघालो — पण त्याआधी दांडेली येथे दोन दिवसांचा सुंदर थांबा घेतला. कर्नाटकातील हे निसर्गरम्य ठिकाण — दाट अरण्य, शांत नदी आणि पक्ष्यांच्या किलबिलाटाने भरलेलं — दोन दिवसांसाठी एक अद्भुत साहस आणि शांततेचा संगम ठरलं.

शेवटी, ही दिवाळी फक्त उत्सव राहिली नाही — ती बनली एक सुंदर जीवनप्रवास — जुन्या आठवणींना पुन्हा जपण्याचा, कुटुंबीय नात्यांना अधिक घट्ट करण्याचा आणि आपल्या सोबत प्रवास करणाऱ्या प्रकाशाचा उत्सव साजरा करण्याचा.
