"देव आहे का नाही?" या प्रश्नावर जगभरात वेगवेगळ्या प्रतिक्रिया दिसतात—कोणी ठाम श्रद्धा ठेवतो, तर कोणी स्पष्ट नकार देतो. पण या दोन्ही टोकांमध्ये एक शांत, विचारशील भूमिका आहे—ती म्हणजे अज्ञेयवाद - अ‍ॅग्नॉस्टिसिझम (Agnosticism).
अज्ञेयवादी(अ‍ॅग्नॉस्टिसिझम) म्हणजे काय? - What is Agnosticism?
अज्ञेयवाद - अ‍ॅग्नॉस्टिसिझम ही अशी तत्त्वज्ञानात्मक भूमिका आहे जी मानते की देव आहे की नाही, हे ठामपणे जाणून घेणे अशक्य आहे. अज्ञेयवादी(अ‍ॅग्नॉस्टिक) व्यक्ती ना देवाच्या अस्तित्वावर विश्वास ठेवतात, ना त्याच्या अनुपस्थितीवर. त्या फक्त एवढंच म्हणतात की आपल्याला खात्रीपूर्वक हे ठाऊक नाही—आणि कदाचित कधीच ठाऊक होणार नाही.
हा अज्ञेयवादी विचार हजारो वर्षा पूर्वी नासदीय सूक्त ह्या मध्ये मांडलेला दिसतो .
सृष्टीच्या आधी सत्य नव्हतं,
असत्यही नव्हतं.
आकाश नव्हतं, अवकाशही नव्हतं.
लपलेलं होतं काय, कुठे, कोण जाणतं?
त्या क्षणी तर अगम्य, अचल जलही नव्हतं.
ही सृष्टी कोणी निर्माण केली?
तो कर्ता आहे का, की अकर्ता?
तो वर उंच आकाशात राहतो का?
सदैव अध्यक्ष बनून विराजतो का?
तोच खरोखर जाणतो —
किंवा तोही कदाचित जाणत नाही.
हे कोणालाच ठाऊक नाही…
हे संपूर्ण जगातील साहित्यामधील अज्ञेय (agnostic) शोधाचा एक प्राचीनतम आणि महत्त्वाचा दाखला बनवते —
तो गूढ, काव्यात्म, आणि ब्रह्मांडाच्या सत्यासमोर नम्रतेने नतमस्तक करणारा आहे.
व्यापक दृष्टिकोनातून Agnostic- अज्ञेयवादी
आजच्या जगात अनेक लोक अज्ञेयवादी(agnostic) भूमिका स्वीकारतात—विशेषतः जे धार्मिक अंधश्रद्धांपासून दूर राहू इच्छितात पण नास्तिकतेची टोकाची भूमिका स्वीकारू इच्छित नाहीत.
अ‍ॅग्नॉस्टिसिझम हे निश्चिततेपेक्षा विचार आणि प्रश्नांना स्थान देणारी भूमिका आहे. हे एका प्रकारे शास्त्रीय दृष्टिकोन आहे—जिथे शंका, अभ्यास आणि खुलेपणा यांना महत्त्व दिलं जातं.

When it comes to the question “Does God exist?” we see a range of responses across the world—some people have firm faith, while others strongly deny it. But between these two extremes lies a quiet, thoughtful perspective: Agnosticism.
What is Agnosticism?
Agnosticism is a philosophical stance that holds that it is impossible to know for certain whether God exists or not.
An agnostic person neither believes in the existence of God nor denies it outright. They simply say:
“We do not know for sure—and perhaps we may never know.”
This agnostic line of thought appears even thousands of years ago—in the Nasadiya Sukta of the Rigveda.
The Nasadiya Sukta – Ancient Echo of Agnosticism
Before creation, there was no truth,
nor was there untruth.
There was no sky, no space.
What was hidden? Where? Who could see?
Even water—deep, unfathomable—was not.
Who created this universe?
Is there a creator—or is there none?
Does he dwell in the heights of heaven?
Does he rule over all from above?
Perhaps He truly knows—
or perhaps even He does not.
No one truly knows…
This makes it one of the earliest and most profound expressions of agnostic inquiry in all of world literature—mystical, poetic, and deeply humble in the face of cosmic truth.
A Broader View: Agnosticism Today
In today’s world, many people embrace the agnostic perspective—especially those who want to stay away from blind belief yet are not ready to fully identify as atheists.
Agnosticism doesn’t claim certainty—it prioritizes thoughtfulness and questioning.
It aligns with a scientific mindset, where doubt, inquiry, and openness are valued.
Conclusion
Agnosticism may not give us definitive answers, but it offers something equally valuable:
honesty, introspection, and the courage to accept the unknown.
Sometimes, the highest wisdom lies not in knowing the answers—but in asking the right questions, even when no answers are found.
